Wordorigins.org: Please consider a paid subscription

This is my semi-annual plea for paid subscribers. Thank you for subscribing to Wordorigins.org. But please consider a paid subscription at $5/month ($50/year) or, if you are rather comfortable, $15/month ($150/year).

I produce this site as a labor of love, and I bear the bulk of the costs myself. While my time comes at no financial cost, software and hosting costs are rising as ad revenue is declining. The site used to operate on a break-even basis, but that is true no longer.

Along with my everlasting gratitude, paid subscriptions come with two monthly, paid-subscriber-only posts: Wordorigins After Dark, which addresses some of the adult aspects of the English language and (new this month) Words in the News, which explores a term that is recently popular in public discourse. If enough people subscribe, I will add additional paid-only features. (Although I intend to keep the bulk of the site outside of any paywalls and available to anyone.)

So if you are willing and able, please upgrade to a paid subscription. If not, please continue to enjoy the site on a free basis.
